HOW TO WRAP YOUR GIFT, PRETTY QUICKLY

LIST OF WRAPPING SUPPLIES

Wrap a Present With These Supplies (List)

Wrapping Paper

Choose a wrapping paper that suits the occasion (Christmas vs. Birthday, for example) and the recipient's style and personality.

Sharp Scissors

Use a pair of sharp scissors for clean cuts. Make sure they're easy to handle and suitable for cutting wrapping paper.

Tape

Clear tape works best for a seamless finish, but you can also use double-sided tape for an even neater look. I prefer clear as I feel like it's easier than double-sided, but you do you.

Gift Box (Optional)

If your gift is small or an irregular shape, consider placing it in a gift box before wrapping. This can make the process easier and result in a more polished appearance.

Ribbon / Bow (Optional)

Choose a ribbon that complements the wrapping paper. Satin or grosgrain ribbons work well. Bows can be pre-made or tied by hand.

Gift Tag (Optional)

Select a gift tag that matches the theme of the wrapping paper. Ensure it has enough space for your personalized message.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO WRAP

Now that you have all your supplies ready to go (hopefully) it’s officially time to wrap that gift!  First, don’t freak.  Second, breathe.  Check out my easy-to-follow tips below on exactly what you gotta do when wrapping the perfect present. You got this!

1.

Step 1: Measure and Cut the Wrapping Paper

  • Place the gift in the center of the wrapping paper.
  • Measure enough paper on each side to fully cover the gift.
  • Use the scissors to cut the paper along the measured lines.

2.

Step 2: Fold and Secure the Paper

  • Place the gift face down on the paper.
  • Fold one side of the paper over the gift, ensuring a snug fit.
  • Secure the folded edge with a piece of tape.
  • Repeat on the other side, making sure the edges meet neatly in the middle.

3.

Step 3: Fold and Seal the Ends

  • For each end of the gift, fold the excess paper in a triangular shape (similar to wrapping a box).
  • Crease the edges for a sharp finish.
  • Secure the folded edges with tape.

4.

Step 4: Add Ribbon or Bow (Optional)

  • Cut a length of ribbon long enough to wrap around the gift.
  • If using a bow, tie it in the center of the ribbon.
  • Attach the ribbon by tucking it under the folded paper or secure it with tape.

5.

Step 5: Attach a Gift Tag (Optional)

  • Write your personalized message on the gift tag.
  • Attach the gift tag to the ribbon or directly to the gift using tape.

5 GIFT WRAPPING HACKS

Don’t forget, practice makes perfect decent.  The more gifts you wrap the better you’ll typically get.  It took me years before I can a gift wrapping pro (or at least I think I am).  Here are some helpful little hacks/suggestions to keep in mind.  They just may bring your wrapping skills to a whole new level.

  1. Use a Cutting Mat:

    • Place a cutting mat or a large piece of cardboard under the wrapping paper. This protects your working surface and makes it easier to cut straight lines.

  2. Measure Twice, Cut Once:

    • Double-check your measurements before cutting the wrapping paper. This helps prevent mistakes and ensures the paper fits the gift perfectly.

  3. Secure Corners with Diagonal Folds:

    • When folding the ends, create a diagonal fold at each corner for a neat and professional finish. This technique minimizes excess paper at the ends.

  4. Curl Ribbon for a Decorative Touch:

    • If using curling ribbon, run the edge of the ribbon against the blade of scissors to create curls. This adds a decorative touch to your wrapped gift.

  5. Create Pleats for Large Gifts:

    • For larger gifts, create pleats at the sides before folding and securing. This technique helps to eliminate excess paper and gives a cleaner appearance.

IN CONCLUSION

As you can tell, mastering the art of gift wrapping involves attention to detail, creativity, and a touch of personalization. By following the step-by-step guide and incorporating my additional tips, you can transform a simple gift into a beautifully wrapped package!

Remember to choose materials that suit the occasion, measure accurately, and use techniques like diagonal folds and pleats for a polished finish. Adding decorative elements, matching colors, and practicing bow-tying techniques can kick your skills up a notch.

Whether you’re wrapping small or large gifts, the goal is to create a visually appealing and thoughtfully wrapped package that reflects your care and consideration for the recipient. With practice, you’ll not only save time but also enjoy the process of turning gift-giving into a delightful and artistic experience. Happy wrapping!
